AND NOW WHAT 1

As those who know me will tell you, it’s something I ask- not out of cynicism, but just to understand where anything is leading to and what was or is the end game plan.

AND NOW WHAT 2

So you write songs, but have no publishing deal and no one hears them. And now what?

AND NOW WHAT 3

Your band has spent years recording 156 tracks or even two with some big time producer and it’s cost you your savings. And now what?

AND NOW WHAT 4

So the girl you laid last night was great. Good for you. And now what?

AND NOW WHAT 5

I’m writing this post. And now what? Well, for me, writing is therapeutic, it’s cheaper than seeing a shrink and helps me prioritize the day ahead in my often addled head.

AND NOW WHAT 6

As when Rupert Murdoch went on twitter for the first time- guess the collapse of his marriage to Wendi Teng proved that there’s no twit like an old twit- I was thinking of all the space being given to Tim Cook, CEO at Apple, for opening HIS twitter account. And now what, @tim_cook?

AND NOW WHAT 7

Apart from some weak gags about it by Jimmy Fallon who is becoming pretty tedious these days with his “youthful exuberance” and faked out goofiness, so Tim Cook has a twitter account. So what? And now what?

AND NOW WHAT 8

Is he gonna read your tweets? Is Apple going to help you and the music you create through everything you buy from them? If not, why not?

Will tweeting @tim_cook result in a reply or a retweet?

Sure, I’ve tweeted @tim_cook and heard fuck all. But what did I expect?

These celebrity gods and goddesses on Twitter is a very big And Now What? and So What? question and is time for us mere mortals to get real and forget all the crap surrounding all this clutter, “following”, communicating and the hype of “social media”.

AND NOW WHAT 9

Most who specialize in “social media” and are paid to “show the way” by companies made up of bad hires have already been caught out many times over as, simply put, they are gremlins when it comes to bona fide marketing despite the obvious like “engaging the consumer”.

Oh, please! “Engaging the consumer”? That’s advertising and marketing 101.

AND NOW WHAT 10

How do us consumers who worship at the feet of Apple get @tim_cook to engage with us as, I am pretty sure Steve Jobs would have done? It would have been his next logical step.

AND NOW WHAT 11

Well, I think so, anyway. But what do I know?

The thought of Ashton Kutcher playing Steve Jobs was something too stupid to consider. And then look at what happened.

AND NOW WHAT 12

As for what is casually tossed around as “social media” and when you suddenly have thousands of “followers” on twitter from India and Spain for no reason and pay for YouTube “views” and Facebook “likes”, well, And then what- and so what other than kidding yourself?

Like any addiction you crave for more attention and more updating of your profile and the social media pushers feed the craving.

AND NOW WHAT 13

Think of all the emails you receive from India and, if India fails, the “States” via India, selling you SEO services to gain your site more “views and visitors”- always by hiriing some poorly paid kids in Bangalore to punch in thousands of fake views in an hours.

AND NOW WHAT 14

It’s all just as big a con as receiving emails about inheriting billions from a dead relative or a lottery in Botswana.

The big problem is when well-known celebrities and their PR teams use social media to hide the truth and prop up their flagging popularity, the downward spiral of ratings of television series, sales drops in products and when the media gets too close to their real sexual preferences, a new girlfriend- or boyfriend- pops up. Thank gawd for Jodie Foster.

AND NOW WHAT 15

So, today, Simon Cowell is going to be a father. Khloe Kardashian’s marriage is fucked. Kim Kardashian is in fear of Kanye West touring. will i am is suing Pharrell Williams. Miley Cyrus is missing her ex fiancĂ©e? And so what?

AND NOW WHAT 16

Who ARE these people? How, why and from where would they get these millions of fans?

More to the point, how are they gonna benefit you and me?

AND NOW WHAT 17

AND NOW WHAT 18

@tim_cook now has around 280,000 followers, he DOES tweet- three so far with one wishing us a happy weekend- And now what and what’s the point of following him if it doesn’t benefit you?

We’ve given enough to Apple.

It’s now consumer payback time and a way for the company to showcase what we have created with their products through a new platform.

Only a man of vision can make this happen and, perhaps, we have lost him forever.
